Paws Then Play LLC is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our vision is to educate and serve those who are disabled and need help to navigate the world with their service dog and also to educate businesses on their rights and responsibilities to avoid risk on the business side in the case of a service dog entering.

My name is Lindsay Brown, and I have a history peppered with experiences that make me uniquely suited for the business I created. I’ve had intensive training with animals including conditioning my own service dog, managing my own disabilities daily, researching laws specific to service animals, and enjoy working with the public.

I love animals, and it is my passion to continue learning about them and how to enrich their lives. Initially I worked with horses and with horses you learn to read and feel body language and use that knowledge to enhance communication.

As I aged I progressed to training dogs. I have now been training professionally for over 12 years and am an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator. I have had hands-on experience with a wide variety of breeds, ages, temperaments and situations and worked with owners that have diverse goals and experience.

I have also logged countless hours of observation with varying levels of participation in a wide variety of dog sports such as (but not limited to) competition obedience, agility, protection work, bite sports, herding, tracking, and conformation. I am a firm believer that one size does not fit all when it comes to finding a solution for dogs and their owners. Because of this diverse real-world education, at times I have differing views than the mainstream.

As I began to encounter obstacles with my health, I found I no longer had the strength or stamina for the physical aspects of basic training. Often standing and/or walking were just not options at the moments I needed them to be. Coming to terms with physical limits did nothing to dull my interest in canine ethology however. If anything, it actually expanded my knowledge base by forcing me to become more creative and resourceful in researching solutions and implementing them. I narrowed my focus to training my own Service Dog with great success, due largely in part to my active training background.

I have two dogs in my household, Brutus and Grace. Brutus is a beautiful brindle hound mix. He has earned his Canine Good Citizen award, Rally Novice title, Rally Advanced title, therapy dog certification, and loves blood tracking. He also happens to be the best little short-haired heater in the house, and couch holder extraordinaire.

Grace is my Service Dog, and we train daily for fun as well. She made her debut in the obedience ring with me November of 2012 at the Companion Dog level. We entered two classes over two days and came away with a first and second place. She has also been awarded the Canine Good Citizen Award, Companion Dog title and passed therapy dog testing as well.

Over the past few years I’ve focused my time and energy on educating businesses here in North Carolina, and the community, on all things about Service Dogs, consulting individuals interested in how a Service Dog can assist them, as well as evaluating and training rescue dogs with the Greater Charlotte SPCA. In my free time, I enjoy crafting and gardening.

If there’s any way I can be of assistance to you or your business, please reach out to me! I would love to connect with you!
